Complaint Reporting Center for Overseas Chinese

A center for overseas Chinese to issue complaints has opened in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

Guangdong is home to hundreds of thousands of overseas Chinese.

Sources from the Office for Overseas Chinese Affairs of the Guangdong Provincial People's Government said that they handle a large number of complaints from overseas Chinese about the services in China.

In 2000 alone, the office handled 4,357 cases involving complaints and consulting last year, of which, complaints made up over 40 percent.

The center has been designated to improve the services surrounding overseas Chinese in Guangdong, said a local official. In addition to handling complaints, it will also offer consulting services.

According to the official, the center is staffed with workers who are experienced in the affairs of overseas Chinese, are familiar with China's laws and foreign languages, and are enthusiastic about serving overseas Chinese.

Overseas Chinese may visit the center via its website address of www.gdoverseaschn.com.cn, or send their complaints to the center through the e-mail box of qwbmail@gd.gov.cn, said the official.
