Chinese Minors Well Protected

China's 370 million minors will be provided with more education opportunities, better entertainment facilities and more secure environment, officials from the ministries of education, culture and public security told a recent seminar in Beijing.

Official statistics show that more than 190 million minors had received nine-year compulsory education by the end of 2000, 19.25 percent higher than the 1991 figure.

The Ministry of Culture vowed to create better artistic works and provide better entertainment facilities for minors. Further cleaning up the nation's entertainment market will help to keep minors away from negative influence of violence and pornography.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security has committed itself to tightening up the protection of minors from crimes such as kidnapping.
