Int'l Film Festival Opens in Shanghai

The Fifth Shanghai International Film Festival opened last Saturday evening in Shanghai.

A total of 376 films, representing more than 200 studios in 40 countries and regions, have registered to take part in the nine- day event, which is expected to attract a total audience of 300,000.

From these films, 14 will be chosen to compete for this year's Golden Goblet Award, according to the organizers.

Four of the seven judges are from Europe, with the rest from Asia, according to the organizers.

An international symposium on the film market and cinematics, as well as film shows, will be arranged during the festival.

The annual Shanghai International Film Festival, initiated in 1993, is the only of its kind in China and one of the two Category A international film festivals in Asia.
