Asia's Biggest Film and TV Market Stars in HK

Asia's largest film and TV market, the Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart 2001) was opened on Wednesday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Peter Woo, chairman of the Trade Development Council (TDC), said, "Hong Kong is dynamic and is always searching for the new, the surprising, the latest and the best from around the world. It is, therefore, particularly fitting that Hong Kong should play host to Filmart."

He said, "being the largest film event in Asia, our ambition is for this annual gathering to become the premier international marketplace for film in our time zone."

According to Woo, 130 film and TV companies from 17 countries and regions joined the Filmart, a 20 percent increase in the number of exhibitors over last year.

"This success underscores Hong Kong's lead as an international entertainment and distribution hub," he added.

Organized by TDC, Filmart 2001 will run until June 29. Besides showcasing film and TV programs, it offers a wide and growing range of film-related services: animation production, post- production technology, film financing and digital entertainment applications.
