New Year Holidays: Season for Homestay

New Year holidays seemed a good time for local people in Shanghai to stay at home and have refreshment, a recent survey indicated.

The Shanghai Evening News and the online survey firm Market-Expert (Shanghai) Co.Ltd jointly made the survey on 317 households in Shanghai's 11 districts.

In the survey, nearly two-thirds of the respondents said they spent most of the holidays at home, while one-third said they visited friends and slightly more than 10 percent said they worked.

Cold weather and the shortness of the holidays have prevented many people from traveling around as they usually do in the one-week holidays in May and October, the survey showed.

Of those who stayed at home during the holidays,46.67 percent said the cold weather had confined them indoors and 44 percent said they wanted to take full rest in the three days before they restart the work.
