China Calls for Better Medical Services

China's vice premier Li Lanqing on Thursday sent a letter to the on-going national medical work conference, asking the country's medical departments to provide better but cheaper services.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said in the letter that medical reform should be further promoted so as to satisfy the people's basic medical requirements.

He also asked doctors nation-wide to follow the "three representatives" conception, namely the representatives of advanced production force, advanced culture and the interests of the majority, put forward by President Jiang Zemin to improve their services.

The vice premier noted that breakthroughs have been made in urban medical reform over the past year, however, all the related departments still need to revivify themselves to do a better job at the beginning of the new century.
