More Investment in Education

According to news from departments concerned, China will increase an input of 50 billion yuan on education in the coming five years.

As reported, the educational outlay is one of the key funds ensured by the state finance. China has kept a yearly increase of one percentage point in succession since 1998. And till 2002, the increased educational outlay financed by the state will add up to nearly 50 billion yuan. In addition, China will set aside an educational development fund for West China with preferential policies.

According to CCTV, China will from now on spend nearly 10 billion yuan on education in West China, which will be used for compulsory education, reparation of school buildings, network construction, and strengthening of key universities.

Aside from the national finance, preferential policies have also been adopted by some 20 provincial, autonomous and city governments on the development of education at an estimated yearly increasing rate of one to two percentage points in coming three to five years.
