China's WTO Updates
Sino-EU legal Program Launched

China and the European Union (EU) yesterday launched a 13.5 million-euro (US$13.9 million) legal and judicial cooperative program, the largest so far in China.

The four-year plan will fund exchanges of lawyers, judges, prosecutors and other legal professionals on study trips and visits to EU countries.

The aim of the program, according to its European co-director, Stephen Forbes, is to promote professional expertise of Chinese legal personnel and assist with public awareness of the Chinese legal system and legal rights. The cooperation will mainly focus on criminal law, administrative and constitutional laws and commercial and trade laws.

EU and China will soon start a program specifically on the WTO, according to Endymion Wilkinson, head of European Commission delegation.
