China to Increase Spending on Antarctic Research


The framework for the main building in China's Antarctic Zhongshang station was completed on Sunday. It covers a space of 1,000 square meters(around 10,764 square feet) and consists of living quarters, a gymnasium and even a canteen.

There are 25 people currently living and working in the Zhongshan station, the new building will much improve their living conditions there.

Besides increased spending on construction, China also plans to renovate its Antarctic research ship and build a wharf for it. Spending on climate, geological and environmental research on the Antarctic continent will also be increased.
