Downtown Beijing to Establish Int'l "Movie City"


An international cinema complex will be established in Wangfujing, downtown Beijing, at the cost of 800 million yuan (about US$96.4 million).

The "movie city" is a cooperative project between two Belgium companies and a Beijing real estate company, which will cover 60,000 to 80,000 square meters (71,762 to 95,682 sqare yards) of floor space, with 25 movie halls, the largest seating an audience of 800. About 11,000 people will be able to watch films at the same time in the movie city.

The movie city will adopt digital technology with satellite transmission, and will be put to use within the next two years.
