National Book Fair Ready for Readers

The preparations for the 11th National Book Fair have all been completed, said an official of the organizing committee at a press conference over the weekend.

The event will last from October 12 to 22 in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province

"The book fair is an occasion to demonstrate the publishing achievements made in the past few years and produce a new vision for the future," said Shi Qizhong, head of the Jiangsu Press and Publication Bureau.

He added that it is also a good opportunity for publishers all over the country to exchange knowledge and keep in touch with each other so as to promote the further development of the publishing industry.

China's publishing industry had made huge achievements in the past 10 years and puts out hundreds of millions of books of various kinds every year, covering almost all areas of human civilization and yielding tremendous social and economic benefits.

While attention has been put to quantity, emphasis has also been put on quality to guarantee the healthy development of the publishing market.

The book fair this year is the largest one held in the country. Over 500 publishing houses will present an estimated 120,000 kinds of books to readers.

Participants in the fair include many famous publishing houses, according to the organizer. In preparation for the event, all the participating publishers have made meticulous efforts to select the best books and ordered exhibition stalls months in advance.
