Herdsmen Evacuate to Avert Flood in Altay

Several Kazak herdsmen are on the route to higher places in Altay region in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Monday, April 16, 2001.

This region has suffered great amount of snowfall last winter, which means a possible flood with the melting of snow and gathering of water from the surrounding mountains.

To ensure safety of the herdsmen, the local government are taking measures to evacuate herdsmen from lower places.
