Fuzhou Holds Panda Festival

A panda festival opened Sunday in a park known as Panda World in Fuzhou, this coastal city in east China' s Fujian Province.

The two-day event, which is being held to mark the 25th birthday of a panda named Qing Qing, will see the staging of various activities, such as a drawing competition by 100 students, the opening ceremony of a panda museum, a seminar concerning the health care of old pandas and an evening concert.

Panda World, under the Fuzhou Panda Research Center, a key research base for pandas in China, has been engaged in spreading knowledge about pandas to the public for the past 20 years by organizing various educational activities.

The research center is also famous for its outstanding breakthroughs in scientific research programs, including the successful cloning of a panda embryo and the detecting of some rare diseases among pandas.
