Environmental Protection Industrial Park Built in West China

An industrial park for environmental-friendly enterprises was inaugurated Tuesday at the Xi'an New and High-Tech Development Zone in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

This is the first industrial park featuring environmental protection in China's central and western parts.

The park suits the needs of China's strategy of speeding up western development, promotes environmental protection in Shaanxi Province and western China, and facilitates regional industrial structuring and formation of new means of economic growth, said Song Ruixiang, deputy head of the State Environmental Protection Administration.

The development zone had 176 environmental-friendly enterprises with 14,000 staff members by the end of last year. Altogether the companies generated 2.1 billion yuan(US$0.25 billion) of industrial output value upto 2000.
