China Sets Up Children's Accidental Injury Prevention Center

A children's accidental injury prevention and treatment center has recently opened in Beijing, Beijing Daily reported Thursday.

The center was set up jointly by the Beijing Children's Hospital and a medical institute in Australia.

In addition, a national monitoring system on accidental injury to children was also set up to provide first-hand information for the prevention of accidental injury in children.

A five-year survey conducted by the Beijing Children's Hospital revealed that over the last five years, 1,268 children were hospitalized with accidental injuries, or 5.14 percent of all patients.

The most common accidental injuries included scalding, traffic accidents and choking in young children caused by foreign bodies such as peanuts, beans or toys.
