Brothers Reunited

Yu Laifa, 44, has been reunited with his two brothers after a separation of more than 40 years, the Xinmin Evening News reported. His parents were impoverished and were unable to support three children, so they gave Yu up for "adoption" to another family shortly after he was born, the Chinese-language newspaper said.

For the first few years of his life, Yu was able to see his biological parents because they kept in touch with his foster parents. Ever since the death of Yu's foster parents several years ago, he has been trying to locate his brothers.

Yu's wife, Sun Yulan, checked with the neighborhood committee for Dongde'an, where Yu's biological father, Yu Chunlin, lived. Zhabei District police officer Zhang Liang helped the couple check residence records. Zhang found the addresses of Yu's brothers, Yu Jinmu and Yu Jinfa, in Pudong District and helped Yu contact them, the newspaper said.
