First Home-Made Rubbish Power Plant Operational

China’s first power plant using homemade equipment for generating electricity with rubbish was put into operation recently in east China’s Zhejiang Province.

Costing a total investment of 90 million yuan, this non-government-run plant is able to handle 320 tons of rubbish per day and generate 25 million KWH of electricity per year.

Smoke and gas discharged after treatment, tested by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has measured up to the environmental standard set by the country.

The plant has been cited by the state as a demonstration project for rubbish incineration.
