Part 4: On Religious Beliefs in China
Adjust font size:

……

Zhao: There is a Chinese saying that "it is better to see something once than hear about it a hundred times."

We can now touch upon a topic which is somewhat related to politics. Now in Europe and especially in the United States, there are many misunderstandings about China's reality, about its political situation, its religion and press systems. To put all these misunderstandings and attacks into one basket, they are directed against our human rights situation. However, I think no country in the world can claim to have a perfect record in this respect, and the United States and China are no exception. If we humans have a perfect record, then there is nothing left for God to do, and we no longer have to make any efforts.

Palau: That's a good point. No one country can claim to be perfect, but we all must be working toward perfection. One thing I want to say is that we don't confuse the press with the public. In the United States, the general public has a very critical view of the news media. They have more than freedom of the press, they have chaos of the press.

Zhao: Well, sometimes creating news about chaos is in the interest of the press, because they can make more money out of it.

Palau: But they can create a lot of trouble for the government.

Zhao: Governments and religious leaders should not allow themselves to be manipulated by the press, since the newspapers and magazines are often designed by chief editors closeted in their offices. These people design their political "events" in the same manner as fashionable colors are designed by the clothing business. Unfortunately, some politicians frequently succumb to the pressure of the press and/or even manipulate the press. In both cases, they go against the will of God.

Palau: Yes, I absolutely agree with that. God believes in truth, not in lies. I would like, in any way I could, to communicate the truth, facts on the spiritual and Christian side of China. You know, telling people the truth instead of allowing the lies to go on.

Zhao: This is an excellent idea.
