A resident of Yun'an County, Guangdong Province, recently found an unidentified species of animal similar to a koala.

Liang found the animal in the county's Qianfeng Township late last week.

It weighs over 1.1 kilograms and is 50 centimetres long. It is the first time an animal of this type has been found in the remote western part of Guangdong Province.

Experts are yet to identify the animal but said it is similar to a koala.
