The China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED) was established in 1992 by the Chinese government following an international environment conference held in Beijing in October 1990. It is a high level non-governmental advisory body with the purpose "of further strengthening cooperation and exchange between China and the international community in the field of environment and development."Currently, the China Council has entered its third phase (2002-2007) and the first meeting of the third phase was held in Beijing from October 23 to 25, 2002.
