HK CE's Policy Letter Stresses Environment and Culture Elements

Hong Kong needs to ensure the city remain dynamic, vibrant and livable by stressing environment and culture elements, wrote Donald Tsang, Hong Kong's Chief Executive in a letter published on Sunday.

In his letter to Hong Kong citizens, the chief executive explained his second policy address in his term of office and noted that although economic development top the policy list of the government, environment protection and culture development are also important elements to make Hong Kong a better city to live and work.

He called citizens to support the Action Blue Sky Campaign recently launched by conserving energy and reducing vehicle emissions to make Hong Kong a cleaner city. However, he cautioned that there's no quick fix to stop air pollution and major improvements may not be seen in a few more years.

Apart from environment protection, Tsang also emphasized arts and culture development of Hong Kong. "If we want to develop as a cosmopolitan world city, then we need to make sure we have a deeply-entrenched, vibrant and self-sustaining arts and culture scene," he said in his letter, citing Hong Kong's world famous film industry as an example of a tiny city with a big impact on the world.

"I am sure that by improving the living environment and helping our arts and culture scene to thrive we can become an even more cosmopolitan, creative and cool city than we are today," Tsang finally encouraged his citizens to follow his idea in his letter.
