Suspects of 2.7 Million Yuan(US$326,612) Highway Robbery Arrested

Chinese police Wednesday arrested all seven people suspected of robbing 2.7 million yuan from a truck and killing the driver January 5 on a highway in Guangdong Province.

Huang Junlin, Li An, Xie Kefeng, Luo Linhan and Huang Jianxin, all residents of Hunan Province, were arrested by police in Changsha and Chenzhou, both Hunan cities.

The two others, Cao Ming and Cao Shuijun, were arrested on a passenger train traveling from Zhengzhou in Henan to Beijing.

The police have retrieved 2.1 million yuan(US$254,031) from the suspects and seized a Santana car used by the gang during the armed robbery.

Police investigation disclosed that the suspects planned an ambush on the highway near Dalubian Town of Lianzhou, late on January 4.

At about 1 a.m. Saturday, when the truck driven by Wang Yaofeng was passing by, the suspects blocked the truck's way with their Santana car and stabbed Wang to death.

They then robbed 2.7 million yuan from Wang and others, who gained the money by selling silver in Guangzhou, and sped away.
