Members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and other people should study Deng Xiaoping Theory and the "Three Represent's" theory to fulfill this year's goals for the country's reform, opening and modernization drive.
Hu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the call on Friday at a national meeting of heads of the Party's provincial publicity departments.
Hu said time should be taken to give officials and the public a good understanding of the new thinking, viewpoints and conclusions in the July 1 speech by CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin.
Hu, also China's vice-president, said unifying the thinking of the Party and the people to the theories would provide a powerful ideological guarantee for accomplishing this year's tasks and the successful convening of the 16th Party Congress later this year.
Hu said unified thinking of the Party and the people ensures their unified action when it comes to implementing Party policies and realizing China's goals in this new century.
Studying, publicizing and carrying out Jiang's July 1 speech and his "Three Represent's" theory is a fundamental job for the Party's publicity workers and a key way to guide the Party and the people towards unified thinking.
He urged the publicity departments to help officials and the public understand not only the importance and inevitability of the reforms, but also the policies undertaken by the Party to deal with problems.
