The Shanghai Charity Foundation will cooperate with Target Corporation, an American retail chain with no outlets on the mainland, to establish a library for sick children in the city this October, the foundation announced yesterday.

Target has donated US$20,500 to the foundation for the library, which will be located in the new Children's Hospital of Fudan University in Minhang District.

The funds will provide books, furniture and other educational materials for children at the hospital. The foundation plans to buy 1,000 books in the first year and will buy 7,000 books over the next two years.

The library will be able to hold 600 children at one time, and during the course of a year will be able to serve more than 20,000 children.

Laysha Ward, vice president of the corporation's Community Relations Department, said the company aims to get involved in more non-government organization partnerships in the education field in China in the future.
