TV Special on Multiples in Womb Debuts in HK

A TV special about multiples growing in mothers' wombs made its debut in Hong Kong Sunday to celebrate Father's Day, and it will be presented by National Geographic Channel on June 24.

The two-hour TV special, titled "In the womb: twins, triplets and Quads", utilizes amazing 4-D ultrasound images as well as computer generated images to illustrate the fetuses at different stages of gestation and to reveal how multiples grow and compete for resources during these especially challenging pregnancies.

The special follows the stories of three expectant mothers from conception to birth and shows the tiny fetuses as they begin to interact with each other -- pushing, kicking and even what looks like playing and kissing.

It is here that they can forge bonds and behavioral patterns that may define them for the rest of their life, according to the special.

There is an estimated one in 64 million chances for a woman to conceive identical quads, and women reaching the end of their reproductive years are more likely to have a multiple pregnancy, said the special.
