Summer Is the Time to Get Really Fit

Longer days and shorter nights, summer is the ideal season to raise a sweat and enjoy sport. Swimming, jogging, cycling and beach games, no matter whether it's dawn or dusk, just do it.

To better experience the delights of summer sports, Ivan L., a body-fitness instructor at Bronze Bodies Tanning Clubs in Shanghai, provides some tips.

"Before going to do some sport, choosing the appropriate clothing should be a priority. Since dark color clothes absorb heat, light-colored, loose wears can add air circulation and is a nice choice," he said.

"Fabrics such as cotton and linen are natural and can absorb sweat and they are much better than some synthetic fabrics."

Outdoor sports such as basketball, badminton and tennis are very popular. However, Ivan said that from 11 AM to 4 PM, ultraviolet rays and infrared rays are most intense.

"Try exercising in the morning or evening to avoid the worst heat. Otherwise, one can do indoor exercises at local fitness clubs."

For those who are in the habit of doing exercises early in the morning, even before dawn, he suggested that they should bear in mind that having sufficient sleep is also very important.

"Summer is such a thriving period that many ideas for body fitness emerge then. With an open heart, one can try some fresh exercises by oneself, such as hiking, canoeing and roller-skating. Stay active and you will find a brand-new you."
