Hangzhou Opens Its First Export Processing Zone
The Hangzhou Export Processing Zone, the first export processing zone in East China's Zhejiang Province, opened in this capital city over the weekend.

A panel headed by Zhao Guanghua, deputy director of the General Administration of Customs, gave the green light to the formal opening of the zone after a field inspection on Friday.

Situated in the eastern part of Hangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, the new area covers 2.9 square kilometres.

Highways to Ningbo, Shanghai and Nanjing pass near to the zone and sea ports in Shanghai and Ningbo are one-and-a-half-hours' drive away.

"So far, a total investment of more than 100 million yuan (US$12 million) has been put into infrastructure projects in the zone," said Sun Yuan, deputy director of the Hangzhou Export Processing Zone.

Standard mill buildings and warehouses are now under construction, Sun added.
