Overseas Experts Invited to Design New Urban District
Designing experts from the United States, Germany, Australia, Japan, and from China's Beijing, Shanghai and Taiwan, Wednesday, signed in the task documents for designing the startup area of Hunnan New Zone in Shenyang, a well- known industrial city in northeast China.

These experts are from companies including GMP Architects Office of Germany, Lanndesign Company of the United States, Woodhead International of Australia, and China Urban Planning and Designing Institute based in Beijing.

Hunnan New Zone is located at the southern part of Shenyang, also capital of Liaoning Province, and has a total area of 120.6 square kilometers. But the startup area only covers 76 square kilometers.

In accordance with the overall urban development plan of Shenyang, approved by the State Council, the country's highest governing body, early this year, Hunnan New Zone will be a key part of Shenyang's future downtown area.

The development and construction of the zone is a major step for Shenyang's economic and social development in the 21st century, said Song Tieyu, director of Management Committee of Hunnan New Zone and Shenyang State High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.

According to Song, the city government has also set up a special leading group to be responsible for planning and designing affairs.

Hunnan New Zone will be turned into a modern new district where buildings for business, office work, residence, as well as works for the catering trade, culture and entertainment and commerce will be constructed with designs provided by the Chinese and overseas experts, said Song.
