Zhejiang Becomes Richest Province
Zhejiang Province, on Shanghai's southern border, has overtaken the southern province of Guangdong as the richest on China's mainland, according to a government income survey.

Average disposable income in Zhejiang rose nearly 13 percent last year to 10,464 yuan (US$1,260), while Guangdong posted the slowest growth of any province, rising 7 percent to an average income of 10,415 yuan (US$1,255). Still, Guangdong remains China's biggest provincial economy, producing 10 yuan (US$1.2) of goods and services for every 6 yuan (US$0.7) produced in Zhejiang.
