Ford Grants US$120,000 for Environmental Protection in 2002
The United States' Ford Motor Company announced in Beijing on March 26 it will offer one million yuan (US$120,000) in Ford Motor Conservation and Environmental Grants to institutions and individuals in China for the third consecutive year.

As previously, the "2002 Ford Motor Conservation and Environmental Grants" will cover areas such as the "Protection of Nature", "Environmental Education" and "Environments Projects by Children and Youth", according to Mei Wei Cheng, vice-president of the Ford Motor Company and chairman and CEO of the Ford Motor (China) Ltd.

Mei Wei Cheng said that in addition, Ford is working with some Chinese companies in the study of environmentally-friendly technology for the automobile industry.

This year's final results will be announced in mid-October.

Wang Guangying, a vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the launching ceremony of "2002 Ford Motor Conservation and Environmental Grants" at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Also present at the ceremony were Qu Geping, a NPC Standing Committee member and chairman of the NPC Environmental and Resources Protection Committee, and Nick Scheele, president and chief operation officer of the Ford Motor Company.
