China to Develop Electric Vehicles

hina will spend 880 million yuan (US$106 million) in the next few years to develop electric cars to cut pollution and dependence on oil imports and develop its auto industry, Xinhua news agency reported.
China would be able to develop commercially viable electric vehicles by 2005, said Li Jian, a Ministry of Science and Technology official. They will be used during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
