Overseas Entrepreneurs in the Limelight
Fueled with optimism from successful conventions in 2000 and 2001, organizers of the third national convention for overseas Chinese enterprises are preparing for the event to be held in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang Province from June 2 to 4.

Organized by the Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs under the State Council, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, this year's convention will focus on cooperation and exchange in science and technology innovation.

More than 300 overseas entrepreneurs from all over the world will be invited to the convention, representing such fields as IT, bio-medical science, modern agriculture, chemical industry, machinery, environmental protection and engineering.

"Unlike our past two occasions, most of the businessmen we have invited represent a young generation of overseas Chinese who are centered in high-tech enterprises and have capitalized on information and technology innovation," said Fang Shirong, deputy secretary of the convention.

"As overseas Chinese, they have an equal understanding of both the foreign and Chinese market environment," said Jin Shengshan, vice-mayor of Hangzhou, and organizer of the convention. "We hope the convention will be a great success for them, acting as a bridge between them and the ever developing Chinese market."

The convention will offer opportunities for delegates to release their new patents and high-tech products.

Domestic officials, experts, scientists and business people from the high-tech industry will also attend the convention.

To upgrade services for overseas businesses, many related organizations such as banks, associations for industry and commerce, tax bureaux, customs offices and accounting companies will be present at the meeting to offer advice to delegates.
