Investment in Micro-electronics Encouraged: Mayor
Beijing welcomes international investors to explore the micro-electronics business, which is expected to become a leading industry in the high-tech field here in the 21st century.

Beijing mayor Liu Qi made the call Thursday at the on-going Micro-electronic International Seminar here while addressing international experts at the event.

The city had achieved obvious progress in developing the knowledge-based economy and it was making great efforts to build itself into a base for the micro-electronics industry in north China, according to Liu.

Construction of six software institutes, which would train software staff for circuit design, was underway, the mayor revealed.

Beijing had so far enacted a series of preferential policies concerning additional investment from the government, tax reductions for software technicians and subsidizing land rental, aiming to encourage faster growth in the industry.

Most of the experts attending the seminar were optimistic aboutthe progress of the micro-electronics industry in Beijing, forecasting a rapid development era in the next decade.
