Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund). It is held annually on the last Saturday of March, and asks households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.

Chengdu is the first city in China to commit its support to Earth Hour 2010. WWF Chengdu will encourage and support environmental societies of universities based in the city to launch the campaign.

The environmental societies who are willing to participate in the event can send an application to WWF Chengdu before March 6.

The WWF will offer support, including providing reusable shopping bags, T-shirt and posters.

Time of Earth Hour 2010: March 27, 20:30-21:30
