A cold front sweeping central and eastern parts of China has dispersed heavy fog that decreased air quality in these regions during the past few days.

But the cold air will bring strong winds and low temperatures to those areas over the next two days, China's meteorological authorities said Wednesday.

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) has issued a blue-coded alert for the cold spell, the lowest level in the country's four-scale alert system.

The cold front will drop temperatures by up to 14 degrees Celsius in some parts of northern and northeastern China over the next two days, bringing rain and snow, said the NMC forecast.

The lingering fog in central and eastern regions dispersed Wednesday as the snap took effect. The NMC terminated a blue-coded fog alert on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, the center continued to issue a yellow alert, the second-lowest alert level, for offshore gales, warning of force ten winds in some parts of the East China Sea and the Taiwan Strait.

Experts suggested vessels return to harbor to avoid risks.
