The Ministry of Railways and China Earthquake Administration have signed a strategic agreement on cooperation in developing a high-speed train earthquake warning system, an earthquake authority official said on Thursday.

Chen Jianmin, director of the administration, said it is possible to achieve earthquake-warning systems for high-speed trains in different regions in China, according to China Central Television.

In the future, the ministry and the administration will give more attention to study warning techniques in different areas to alert high-speed trains to reduce their speed and stop before equipment is damaged by earthquakes, the report said.

Chen said the ministry and the administration have built some monitoring sites along the high-speed railways, and they will later share data to better master earthquake warning information, CCTV reported. In addition, the two departments have established a joint research group to deal with emergencies.
