Nearly 500 hectares of forest have been burned down and a number of villages have been evacuated in the Kaz Mountains in the Havran district of Turkey's western province of Balikes on Tuesday.
The semi-official Anatolia news agency reported that the big forest fire is continuing to spread in the mountains and that Olive groves and farm lands have also been affected by the fire.
Governor Ahmet Turhan said they were struggling to bring the fire under control because of the strong winds.
However, the regional director of forestry Recep Ates said " firefighters have begun to respond to the fire effectively" as the wind's speed has started to decrease.
"There have been some critical points which were dangerous for us, but for now the situation does not look too bad," he said.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but according to official estimates, a farmland blaze could be the source.
