Snow, freezing rain and sleet led to power outages and forced schools to close Thursday in the U.S. state of Oklahoma, local media reported.
Meanwhile, a number of car crashes and at least one death were reported due to the winter weather Wednesday and Thursday in Oklahoma, according to local news website newsok.com.
At 8:40 a.m. Thursday, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Co. reported 4, 723 customers statewide without power due to storms.
The freezing precipitation caused school districts across northern Oklahoma to close Thursday.
A man in the state was killed Wednesday when he lost control of his pickup on a slushy road and was hit by an oncoming tractor- trailer, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. Paramedics responded to 15 car crashes from midnight to 11 a.m. Thursday, and two people were taken to emergency rooms, a spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services Authority said. A majority of winter warnings and advisories expired throughout northeastern Oklahoma after storms moved from the area Thursday.
