Indonesian haze blankets Thailand's south

Heavy haze from Indonesia, which has already expanded to Singapore and Malaysia, is now across Thailand's southernmost part, affecting the daily lives of local residents, Thai News Agency reported on Tuesday.
The smog-seasonal atmospheric pollution, caused by the burning of large-scale rice fields and forests in Indonesia's Sumatra Island, has caused very low visibility of only 300-400 meters in Thailand's southernmost Narathiwat province.
Vehicles in the province have to turn on their headlights to avoid accidents. Local residents must close doors and windows due to the acrid burning smell from the haze. The livelihoods of local fishermen have also been affected as they were forced to stay ashore.
Hat Yai, the commercial city of Thailand's southern Songkhla province, has also been hit by the haze. The visibility in the city was about 500 meters.
