Hu: China 'basically ready' for Games

Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Friday presided over a meeting of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau as preparatory work for the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics enters its final stage.

The meeting agreed organizers have made great achievements with support from the Chinese people, governments in Beijing and other co-host cities, the International Olympic Committee and the global community.

"Preparations are going very well and we are basically ready for the Games," it said.
