Liao Xiaoyi

Liao is an advocate of the “green lifestyle”, which entails saving water, sorting garbage to facilitate recycling, using public transportation, saying “No” to wildlife products, and using recyclable commodities. She visited dozens of villages in Jiangxi, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces to learn more about a mode of rural tourism that is focused on protecting the rural community. She directed a documentary called Heaven Knows that showcases conventional ecologically friendly cultures. She also compiled information on environmental protection especially for farmers. As an environment consultant to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, she helped the organizing committee to develop a mission statement and action plan for a Green Olympics Eco-tour, which is seen as a significant step toward adopting the International Ecotourism Standard in China.
