A new world record was created on Thursday involving three
thousand people, three thousand skipping ropes, and three
minutes.
The rope jumpers in the central Chinese city of Changsha
gathered on a pedestrian street and skipped simultaneously.
They broke the previous Guinness World Record set by Hong Kong
citizens in 2005.
An officer from the Guinness China office approved the Changsha
record and gave event organizers a certificate.
The 3,009 enthusiastic participants spanned all ages, ranging
from 10 years to 68. Many came with their entire families.
In January 2005, 2,474 Hong Kong people created a Guinness World
Record for the most people skipping rope simultaneously.
In April this year, a group of citizens in the nearby mainland
city of Xiamen attempted to break the record, but failed.
Over 3,000 Changsha
citizens jump ropes and set a new Guinness World Record, on
Thursday, July 12, 2007.
