Shanghai reported two new A/H1N1 flu patients yesterday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the city to 10.

The ninth case is the 47-year-old mother of the eighth A/H1N1 flu patient. The Chinese woman was with her daughter on the Continental Airlines CO087 flight from the United States to Shanghai last Thursday.

The 18-year-old daughter started to develop flu-like symptoms on Thursday night and was confirmed with the H1N1 virus on Friday.

The mother was ordered to stay at home for observation. But she developed a fever on Saturday morning and was sent to Pudong Infectious Disease Hospital for treatment.

Shanghai Center for Disease Control and Prevention found her positive for the H1N1 virus. She is now in the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, the designated hospital, in stable condition. Her two close contacts, both family members, are under observation at home.

The 10th case is a 24-year-old Frenchman studying at a local university. He arrived at Pudong International Airport on Saturday on flight CO087 from the US.

He was found to have a temperature of 38.5 degrees Celsius at the airport. He tested positive for swine flu virus yesterday morning.

He is also in a stable condition in the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center. Health authorities are tracking his close contacts on the flight.

Meanwhile, six more A/H1N1 flu cases were confirmed in other parts of the Chinese mainland yesterday, bringing the total number to 80.

Three cases were reported in Beijing, including a 12-year-old Chinese boy and two foreigners, Xinhua news agency reported.

The boy had been studying in the United States and returned to China from Orlando on Saturday.

The two foreigners were from the disease control authorities of a southeast Asian nation, and had been attending a training class in Beijing.

In Fujian City, a two-year-old Chinese girl was confirmed with A/H1N1 flu yesterday.

Two cases infected through local transmission were confirmed yesterday in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, bringing the total number of such cases to six on the Chinese mainland, according to Xinhua.
