Adjust font size:

South Africa has confirmed the country's first death from H1N1 influenza, agencies quoted a health department official from Western Cape as reporting on Monday.

The reports said a 22-year-old male student from University of Stellenbosch died on July 28th after suffering flu symptoms. The case became South Africa's first confirmed death related to the H1N1 virus.

The student first went to the campus clinic on July 20 with flu like symptoms. When he did not improve he went to a general practitioner.

He left campus and went to stay at his parents' home over the weekend but after consulting another doctor he was referred to a Western Cape private hospital for treatment.
