Hong Kong sees 5 A/H1N1 flu death cases in 4 days

Hong Kong reported two death cases of A/H1N1 flu on Wednesday, bringing the death toll of the disease in Hong Kong to five since Sunday.

The total number of confirmed Influenza A/H1N1 cases in the city has reached 12,456 as of Wednesday.

A statement from Yan Chai Hospital said that a 59-year-old man with chronic disease developed flu symptoms on August 15, and was admitted to the isolation room of the hospital on Aug. 20. The patient received Tamiflu and antibiotics treatment.

The patient's condition deteriorated and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on Aug. 21. A positive result for Influenza A/H1N1 was confirmed on the same day. His condition continued to deteriorate and he succumbed at 1:57 a.m. on Wednesday.

Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital reported that a 47- year-old male patient with history of leukemia was admitted to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit for fever and shortness of breath on Aug. 27. Positive results of Influenza A/H1N1 was confirmed on Aug. 28. He remained in critical condition and required ventilation support during hospitalizations. The patient succumbed at 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday.
