Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Spanish counterpart Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero held telephone talks Wednesday on the earthquake relief in China's quake-stricken areas and relations between the two countries.

Zapatero expressed once again sympathy and condolences to the Chinese side over the earthquake and said Spain is willing to continue providing support for the rebuilding efforts in the affected region.

The Spanish Prime Minister said it's very important for Spain to develop friendly cooperative relations with China, and that Spain firmly adheres to the one-China policy, and supports Beijing in hosting a successful Olympics.

Wen thanked the Spanish government and people for their support and assistance for the quake relief efforts in China.

The premier said China highly values developing relations with Spain.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and China is willing to take this opportunity to strengthen high-level visits and promote mutually beneficial cooperation with Spain in various fields, he said.

An 8.0-magnitude earthquake jolted China's southwestern Sichuan Province and neighboring regions on May 12, killing 69,146 people as of Wednesday noon, according to the State Council Information Office.
