Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) chief Yukio Hatoyama, Japan's prime minister in waiting met Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai Friday following the party's historic election victory.

During their meeting, Cui said the DPJ has always attached great importance to Sino-Japanese relations and hoped the ties can be further promoted after DPJ officially assumes power.

Cui said the purpose of the half-hour meeting is mainly to greet DPJ's victory and the two sides didn't touched upon specific issues.

Hatoyama held talks with ambassadors from the United States and Russia on Thursday, after speaking on the phone with U.S. President Barack Obama earlier in the day.
