On May 15, 2008, FIT Secretary General Sheryl Hinkkanen sent a letter of consolation to TAC on behalf of FIT. The letter is as below:

“The Council and membership of the International Federation of Translators extend to TAC and the entire Chinese nation our heartfelt condolences owing to the tragedy that has recently befallen China. The severe consequences of the earthquake will leave a lasting mark on many communities. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.”

FIT also sent a similar letter of condolence to another FIT member in China : STACAS.
