China said on Tuesday it appreciated and congratulated the political solution adopted by all parties concerned in Zimbabwe to resolve the election disputes and its positive results, which set store by the interests of the country and the people, and it hoped Zimbabwe will get on the track of stability and development from now on.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks in response to a journalist's question.

She said China has closely followed the situation in Zimbabwe and was glad to see that through dialogues and negotiation for a period of time, the parties concerned in Zimbabwe on Monday officially signed an agreement on establishing a national unity government.

She said the African side, especially the Southern African Development Community, with South African President Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki as its mediator, and the African Union, have played a leading and constructive role in promoting the political solution to the Zimbabwe issue, which China spoke highly of.

"We are ready to continue to make joint efforts with the international community to provide help and support for Zimbabwe's efforts to safeguard the country's stability, unity and resume economic development," said Jiang.
