Wen's visits to Russia, Kazakhstan 'fruitful'

The visits of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Russia and Kazakhstan and his attendance at the 7th Shanghai Cooperation Organization prime ministers' meeting have yielded "significant and fruitful" results, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Friday.

From October 27-31, Wen paid official visits to Russia and Kazakhstan. During the visits, he also attended the 13th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers in Moscow and the 7th prime ministers' meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan.

China and Russia issued a joint communique here Tuesday, pledging further efforts to strengthen strategic coordination and deepen cooperation in various fields.

The visit to Russia has deepened mutual trust, cooperation and friendship between the two countries, Yang told reporters.

During the visit, Wen met with President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and exchanged views with them on bilateral ties, the global financial crisis and other significant international and regional issues.

The China-Russia strategic partnership of cooperation is a high-level and unique partnership, and the key for the high-level partnership is high degree of mutual trust, Russian leaders said during the talks.

Wen spoke of the importance of pushing forward the development of the strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries, saying that in the current volatile international situation, to further develop the partnership is of great significance, realistically and strategically, in safeguarding the common interests of the two countries, and in maintaining world peace and stability.
